About this Service
Radiant floor heating in Nederland handles mountain cabins and alpine homes where severe winter cold and deep snow demand robust hydronic systems with high-output capacity. Steep mountain terrain and extreme temperature swings require condensing boilers rated for continuous operation and snow melt systems for driveways and walkways near Boulder Canyon Drive and Eldora Mountain.
PEX tubing is embedded in concrete slabs with R-15 to R-20 insulation board beneath to prevent heat loss into frozen ground. Closer tubing spacing, typically 6 inches on center, compensates for higher heat loss through walls and windows at altitude.
Systems include glycol antifreeze in hydronic loops to prevent freeze damage during power outages, and backup controls that maintain minimum temperatures when cabins are unoccupied. Installation costs run higher than Front Range projects due to access constraints, material transport, and the need for freeze-protection measures year-round.
