How It Works
Will the system keep a commercial entry or sidewalk clear all winter?
A correctly sized system reduces ice and snow buildup on the surfaces it covers throughout the season. It works best protecting specific high-traffic zones, entries, ramps, walkways, rather than an entire property. Extreme weather events may still require a backup plan for areas outside the heated zones.
Does it work on pavers, or only concrete?
It works on concrete, asphalt, and pavers. Each surface needs a different cable layout and embedment method. Pavers require routing through joints or setting cable in the sand bed beneath them. The site review confirms which approach suits your existing surface before installation begins.
What happens if we delay installing a snow melt system?
Repeated freeze-thaw cycles on unprotected concrete and asphalt accelerate surface cracking. On shaded north-facing ramps, common in Boulder, ice patches return within hours of manual clearing. Each season without a permanent solution adds surface repair costs and ongoing slip liability on high-traffic zones.
Will we still need salt or a snow crew?
Most properties keep a backup plan for extreme storms or areas outside the heated zones. The system is designed to reduce manual cleanup and recurring ice on covered surfaces, not to replace every winter maintenance task across the entire property.
Does installing this require tearing up a large area?
Not necessarily. The scope depends on which zones are targeted. Entrances, ramps, and loading aprons can be addressed as separate projects. The site review determines the actual area involved and whether existing surfaces need any preparation before cable is embedded.
